A lot of teams go straight for the highest title they can find.

That works sometimes, but not always.

Start with the person closest to the problem

If your product solves a day-to-day problem, start with whoever is dealing with it.

If you sell sales software, that might be:

• Head of Sales

• RevOps

• GTM Engineer

• SDR Manager

If a deal is more strategic or expensive, you may need to go higher.

Same pitch, wrong person

Sending the same cold email to an SDR manager and a VP of Sales rarely works.

An SDR manager wants to know if reps can book more meetings with less manual work. A VP wants to know what it costs to generate a meeting and whether that scales.

Same product but what gets their attention is completely different.

Figure out what matters to whoever reads your email and lead with that.

Do not bet the account on one person

One person ignoring you does not mean the account is dead. If the company fits, contact another relevant person.

Start close to the problem, then work toward whoever owns the budget or outcome. Good targeting gets you into the account, but picking the right person gives you a better shot at a reply.
