Which signal should you even use
What each one tells you
People always ask me which signal gets the best reply rate.
The answer depends on what you sell.
Longer one today, but you'll know all five by the end.
Here is how I look at it.
1. Hiring
Say I sell sales infrastructure and see a company hiring five SDRs, two AEs, and a RevOps manager.
I am not reaching out because they have open roles. I am reaching out because more people, more sending volume, and more pressure on the current process are coming.
The job post tells me what is changing, who to contact, and what to talk about.
2. Funding
Funding gets abused badly in outbound. Prospects already got ten emails saying "congrats on the raise."
I look at what happens next instead. Are they hiring a sales team? Entering the US? That is the actual reason to reach out.
3. Job changes
A new VP of Sales reviews the team, tools, and process they inherited. That first quarter is when decisions are still open.
I write about the function they now own, not the new job.
4. Acquisition
A company that just got acquired is about to get audited.
New owners look at everything. What stays, what gets replaced, what's missing.
That opens the door for a new tool, a swap, or a service they now need.
If I sell into IT, finance, or operations, that is worth a mail.
5. Investors
An investor signal tells me where money is about to land.
When an investor backs a company, that company is about to hire, grow, and buy tools.
Following the investor shows me these companies early, before everyone else reaches out.
And one investor usually backs similar companies. What works on one usually works on the next.
